Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants Invests in Oracle to Support Rapid Growth and Maintain High Customer Service

CRMToday: Boutique Hotel and Restaurant Collection to Standardize on Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne

Oracle today announced that Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants, the first and leading collection of boutique hotels and chef-driven restaurants throughout the U.S. and Canada, has selected Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne in a competitive RFP process. Kimpton, which currently operates 43 hotels and 44 restaurants, will rely on Oracle to manage growth, consolidate business processes through improved integration and automate reporting.

In recent years, Kimpton has experienced tremendous growth, both organic and through new hotel property acquisitions. As a result, the company's business systems and processes have become overly complex. Kimpton executives decided to standardize all business operations on a single instance of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Once the implementation is complete, Kimpton will benefit from a scalable business platform capable of supporting the company's growth and maintaining its ability to provide exceptional customer service to each of its properties. Kimpton will also be able to streamline its profitability, forecast budget performance for various projects, manage construction and property requirements and control real estate portfolios.

After evaluating competitive offerings including Microsoft Dynamics AX (Axapta), JD Edwards EnterpriseOne was selected based upon its success in the real estate and construction industry. Additionally, the Oracle applications can be implemented quickly and are expected to seamlessly integrate with Kimpton's current environment without costly or time-consuming modifications.

"We were impressed with the extensive history that JD Edwards brings as the market leader in real estate and construction management systems," said Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants Senior Vice President and Corporate Controller Alan Baer. "Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants will double in size by 2011. So choosing a proven system that will integrate quickly and easily was key to maintaining the growth momentum that we are experiencing."

Hitachi Consulting was engaged to help manage Kimpton's software selection process and to team with Oracle to implement JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. By leveraging Oracle's track record and expertise in the hospitality sector, Hitachi Consulting was able to work closely with Oracle to identify the most relevant solution for Kimpton, based on the company's short and long-term business goals. Hitachi Consulting's value proposition to Kimpton is to assist them as their trusted business advisor. The Hitachi Consulting team has been successful in identifying redundant or obsolete systems and processes that should be eliminated or improved. Hitachi Consulting expects to use this project to improve Kimpton's processes and workflow, as well as eliminate unnecessary applications.

The implementation project began in November 2006 and is expected to go live with Kimpton's various properties in the United States in the July 2007 timeframe. The project team is a blending of Kimpton key users and IT resources, Hitachi Consulting functional and technical experts, with support and QA provided by Oracle Consulting Services.

2006 shows increase in weblogs and personal spaces writing about Microsoft Dynamics AX

I would like to share some ideas of mine about how we can improve access to weblogs and personal spaces but I would also like to elaborate a bit about the name of Microsoft Dynamics AX. Maybe you already noticed the Poll that is running on the Axapta Knowledge Village. More about that later.

A few years ago, may 2004, when the Axapta Knowledge Village weblog started there were only a few weblogs talking about Microsoft Dynamics AX, Axapta at that time.

The (past) year 2006 the number of people writing about Microsoft Dynamics AX on their personal space or weblog has shown a huge increase. I think it even doubled the year 2005 /2004 counting the number of links I added to this weblog (almost 25).

Judging from the number of daily visitors of the Axapta Knowledge Village and the Axapta Lessons Learned (average of 60) there are many people out there looking for success stories, breaking news, implementation experiences, product knowledge and so on.

There remains a need for high quality weblogs or websites that write about Microsoft Dynamics AX. I am still waiting for Solution Partners to open up their weblog and share their experiences. My apologies to those who already do so, please let us know. The others I encourage to start right now. Have a look at the web2.0 market (AJAX, FLASH, ...) there are a lot of upcoming players that maintain a company weblog where they talk about their products and share information with users and visitors. Sure I know the main reason for doing so is to get the attention of people but is that not what every company wants.

Let us go back to the weblogs and personal spaces. Last day I counted almost 40 weblogs / personal spaces out there talking about Microsoft Dynamics AX.

You probably wonder where can I find all these weblogs / personal spaces. There are several ways. Some weblogs are accessible through a Grazr Box running on the Axapta Knowledge Village. Others you can find under the heading Fellow Bloggers. And of course you can always Google or maintain a list of sites yourselve.

But! To make surfing easier for you the Business Solutions Webring started. A webring is a collection of websites, weblogs or personal spaces organized around a specific theme. The main theme of the Business Solutions Webring is Microsoft Dynamics AX and ADDON's . Websites participating in the Business Solutions Webring have a navigation status bar where you can click on the links Next or Previous to surf to the next participant. Currently the Axapta Knowledge Village and Axapta Lessons Learned are part of the webring. Hopefully others will follow and everyone gets a great surfing experience.

The other thing that struked me the last weeks is people starting to talk more and more about DAX in stead of Microsoft Dynamics AX. It is logical to me, people like to use short names for things they talk about daily and I mean very short names. If you are not convinced then ask yourselve how many times during the day you have to mention the name Microsoft Dynamics AX. Personally I am always strugling with the words Microsoft Dynamics AX and I contineously have to explain people what the AX stands for. Seems nobody has a problem understanding the word SAP or do you.

Axapta was short, easy to shout and remember. Will it become DAX ! It is as short as SAP ! and no strugling.

Let us now how you feel. We are running a Poll on the Axapta Knowledge Village for the coming three months to find out the name all of you prefer to use. The Poll is not at all related to Microsoft, it is an initiative of the Knowledge Village. It is just for fun! But maybe, you never know. If you want to know what the status is then click on 3 vertical colored stripes in the right corner.

Have a nice surfing experience and keep it simple .

Software Development Agreement to Strengthen Public Sector Technology Worldwide

Dallas -- Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced today a strategic alliance with Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) to jointly develop core public sector functionality for Microsoft Dynamics AX to address the unique accounting needs of public sector organizations worldwide. The agreement combines Tyler's solid public sector expertise with Microsoft's leading business management technology in a joint development effort.

Microsoft Dynamics is a line of business management solutions for small to enterprise level customers. As a leading provider of information management software for the public sector, Tyler will enhance Microsoft Dynamics AX with public sector-specific functionality. The co-development will broaden the functionality of Microsoft Dynamics AX, providing both Tyler and Microsoft with a public sector accounting platform to support their existing and prospective clients well into the future.

As part of this alliance, Tyler will become an authorized Microsoft reseller for the Microsoft Dynamics solutions developed under this arrangement, and will sell the solutions directly into the government market. Tyler will also receive license and maintenance royalties on direct and indirect sales of the solutions developed under the multi-year term of this relationship, which includes renewal provisions and termination rights.

"This strategic alliance provides exciting opportunities for both of our companies," said Tyler's President and Chief Executive Officer, John Marr, Jr. "Tyler will have access to the latest Microsoft technology to enhance its public sector solutions, and will become a licensed Microsoft reseller for this new solution. Microsoft Launches New Versions of Point-of-Sale Software and Complete POS Solution With First Data and HP

Software updates and complete solution drive innovations for small and midsize retailers.

NEW YORK — Jan. 15, 2007 — Today at the National Retail Federation Annual Convention & Expo in New York, Microsoft Corp. announced the release of Microsoft Dynamics™ – Point of Sale 2.0 and Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) 2.0, furthering Microsoft’s commitment to delivering best-in-class solutions that combine ease of use, rich automation, and outstanding integration with other Microsoft® products and technologies. Microsoft also announced a complete PC-based point-of-sale and integrated payments solution that it will deliver with First Data Corporation and HP. The solution is designed to revolutionize the way small retailers do business and process payments, driving a generational change in payments infrastructure. Payment terminals and dial-up connections can be replaced with PC-based point-of-sale solutions and high-speed Internet connections, offering greater value to retailers and their customers.

“Our vision of offering small and midsize retailers powerful and affordable technology innovation that drives strategic value is a reality,” said Satya Nadella, corporate vice president of the Microsoft Business Solutions Group. “At Microsoft we are excited to offer small and midsize retailers complete business solutions, education and support to empower people with the right information to transform today’s retail challenges into long-term success.”

Microsoft Dynamics – Point of Sale 2.0 offers unprecedented value to customers with a user interface that is familiar, working like and with other commonly used Microsoft software to help increase efficiency; a roles-based design that empowers cashiers and managers; a complete business suite experience that offers seamless integration with Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2007 for an end-to-end solution; and the ability to extend the storefront to the Internet with PayPal, online invoicing and eBay marketplace selling so retailers can drive even more revenue for their businesses online.*

“Microsoft Dynamics – Point of Sale helped us get through this past holiday season with ease, making it possible for us to ring up more dollars per hour than we ever could on an electronic cash register,” said Sarah Furstenberg, owner of Clover, a high-end toy and children’s furnishing store in Seattle. “With Microsoft Dynamics – Point of Sale we have been able to dramatically reduce lines at the cash register. The system allows staff to quickly look up items that may have lost tags and enter new inventory whenever it’s convenient — all with one less employee than we needed with an electronic cash register.”

As a part of Microsoft’s commitment to drive innovation, Microsoft is offering an integrated POS solution, announced separately today with First Data and HP, that can replace cash registers and outdated dial-up connections, enabling retailers to easily adopt integrated payment-based point-of-sale and payment processing. This offering combines First Data’s credit, debit and gift card payment processing power; Microsoft Dynamics – Point of Sale 2.0; and HP’s rp5000 retail-hardened, industry-standard PC featuring a full line of point-of-sale peripherals and warranties. The solution will be offered by First Data, along with its participating alliance partners and independent sales organizations. Purchase and lease options will be available. Retailers can learn more by visiting http://www.POSValueX.com.

For midsize retailers with more complex operational requirements, Microsoft is launching Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0. New benefits include improved ease of use for managing complex inventory, efficient purchase order creation through Microsoft Office integration, support for next-generation hardware devices and simplified product activation.

“With Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System 2.0, I am able to manage my business from home, handle purchase orders with ease and leverage customer data to drive additional revenue for my business,” said Mitchell Cohen, owner of Bellini with two franchise locations in Wellesley, Mass., that sell furnishing and accessories for babies through teens. “With Microsoft Dynamics RMS, I can look at the buying trends of my customers and target them for future sales. For example, when someone comes in to purchase a baby bed, I know that in a couple of years they will be in the market for a crib and I can proactively reach out to the customer at that time.”

First Data, Microsoft and HP Deliver a Completely Automated Point-of-Sale Solution for Small Retailers

Solution replaces cash registers and outdated dial-up connections, enabling retailers to easily adopt fully integrated IP-based point-of-sale and payment processing.

DENVER — Jan. 15, 2007 — First Data Corp. (NYSE: FDC), Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) and HP (NYSE: HPQ)(Nasdaq: HPQ) today announced they have brought together their industry-leading payment solutions, state-of-the-art store management software programs and retail-ready computer hardware in a small-business point-of-sale solution with features that until recently were only available to large retailers.

The First Data POS Value ExchangeSM replaces a cash register and traditional point-of-sale terminal with a computer-based system that delivers a complete store management solution with greater information security, speed of transactions and more flexible payment options for customers.

POS Value Exchange leverages the three companies’ core competencies: 1) First Data’s payment processing power for virtually all forms of payment – from credit and debit to gift cards and checks; 2) Microsoft DynamicsTM – Point of Sale 2.0 software from Microsoft designed to manage inventory, track sales and improve customer management; and 3) a rugged, retail-specific point-of-sale hardware solution from HP. The solution will be offered by First Data, along with its participating alliance partners and independent sales organizations. Purchase and lease options will be available, with pricing set by the individual sales channels.

Specialty retailers will find that the system’s touch-screen display and ability to accept virtually all forms of payment will improve customer service and speed up transaction time. Retailers also will be able to track purchase behaviors and identify buying trends to improve inventory management and save valuable time.

“The customer experience has improved tenfold with the POS Value Exchange solution,” said Byron Borchardt with Bargain Books, one of a number of retailers who have been pilot testing the solution. “Our customers spend less time in the check-out line and the discount the customer received at the store is clearly reflected on the sales receipt. The user-friendly touch-screen display makes employee training simple and seeing a computer at the point of sale projects a professional image to my customers.” Bargain Books has also been able to track buying trends in the store to better manage staffing levels.

First Data, Microsoft and HP believe that the product will have benefits for merchants and consumers alike.

“First Data is excited to team with Microsoft and HP to deliver a unique value to small and mid-sized merchants,” said Barry McCarthy, president of Product Innovation at First Data Commercial Services. “This single solution enables small merchants to have the power to manage their inventory, understand and track customer buying behavior, and offer an enhanced consumer experience by accepting virtually all forms of payment — from credit, debit and gift cards to checks.”

“This new solution will revolutionize the way small retailers do business and process payments,” said Mike Dickstein, general manager of Microsoft Dynamics at Microsoft. “Now small retailers using electronic cash registers and dial-up connections can easily convert to an affordable, integrated point-of-sale and payment processing system, and offer the same great customer service and payment options to their customers that the big-box stores do.”

“Simply put, this solution gives small businesses a competitive edge,” said Gayle Papadopoulos, managing director of Worldwide Distribution and Retail Industries at HP. “HP’s retail-hardened, industry-standard rp5000 point-of-sale system adds the flexibility and affordability of a PC architecture with long life cycles and extended warranties to First Data’s payment processing power and Microsoft’s software.”

POS Value Exchange is designed for smaller retailers, typically with a single store location with up to five lanes.

More information on the POS Value Exchange solution offered by First Data is available at www.POSValueX.com.

Sense Customer Wins Industry Oscar!

The first annual Microsoft Convergence event for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) was held recently in Munich (November 6/7/8) and focused on Microsoft’s fast growing Dynamics products. The event, which brought together over 3200 Microsoft partners and customers, was kicked off by Bill Gates himself who shared Microsoft’s future vision and strategy for business computing and how Microsoft would deliver real world benefits to their customers.

Microsoft also recognised those customers who had made best use of their technology to drive business benefits and it was Sense’s Dynamics AX solution for their client I’Anson Bros that attracted the highest accolade!

In presenting to Sense / I’Anson the ‘Overall Excellence’ award,
Microsoft have placed them at the pinnacle of their network - ahead
of other award winning work for such luminaries as Toyota, BMW
and Endsleigh Insurance. I’Anson Brothers was established over 100 years ago in the small market town of Masham, deep in the heart of the Yorkshire dales, as a supplier of animal feeds to local farmers.

Today, the business is owned and run by the fourth generation of the I’Anson family and supplies specialist farms feeds, micronized ingredients and unique horse feeds to over 25 countries. It has grown into a business with an annual turnover of £20 million and a workforce of 60. Its modern manufacturing plant is at the forefront of technology.

Their M.D., Chris I’Anson travelled to Germany to receive the award from Tami Reller, Microsoft Corporate Vice President of the Business Solutions Marketing Group. Commenting on their success Chris said,
“Working with Sense to implement Dynamics AX has streamlined
processes, reduced operating costs and improved customer service. We now get immediate and accurate management information which is critical to the day to day running and our growth strategy.”

The technical quality of Sense’s work is a key attribute recognised
by companies choosing a Dynamics AX solution from them -
Microsoft has certainly acknowledged not just this element alone -
the award, to quote Microsoft: “demonstrates amazing
achievements in more than one category of excellence” – a fitting
accolade and tribute to a collaboration in which both companies are justifiably proud.
