Isle of Man government selects Microsoft ERP solution

The Isle of Man (IoM) government has commissioned a Microsoft Business Solutions - Axapta solution to replace its legacy Oracle Financials system. The implementation, covering 350 in-house users, is to enable the IoM government to manage its financial and business processes. The government will be assisted in the implementation by Vorsprung Touchstone, a joint venture between Vorsprung and Touchstone Global.

As part of the partnership with Microsoft, the IoM Government has made an organisation wide investment in Microsoft technologies. This investment includes Microsoft Data Centre Server 2003, Exchange 2003, SMS, Sharepoint Portal Server, Windows XP and Active Directory.

The Microsoft Axapta system will be used to serve all business units within the organisation, covering aspects from health to education to treasury.

The Isle of Man hopes the system will be more cost effective as it will integrate Microsoft Data Center Server 2003, Exchange 2003, SMS, Sharepoint Portal Server, Windows XP and Active Directory.

The government has a strategic partnership with Microsoft, which means it has made an organisation-wide investment in its technologies. The partnership is driven by a need to reduce costs and stay within the annual IT budget of less than eight million pounds and to support an integrated e-government policy.

Allan Paterson, director of the Isle of Man government’s information systems division said: ‘We plan to use Microsoft Axapta to manage general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable and tax and treasury functions.’

The Axapta system will also be used in other departments including health, education and treasury.
